Red Heads

Of all the colors that could have been chosen for a Boston game we had to choose Red. Red hats all around for the Mariners. When I first saw them I thought we were wearing Boston hats but then I saw the Seattle logo. Ok…I understand the whole 4th of July thing but the flag has blue stripes as well. Wouldn’t it have been better to wear the blue ones in Boston?

Long Time No Blog

The Mariners beat the Yankees last night stopping their 7 game winning streak and ending the 10 game winning streak against the Mariners in New York. Ichiro pulled out his clown hat with a faux throw of the ball into the stands (hee…hee…that was pretty good, especially since Yankees fans are notorious for being disrespectful at Safeco. I don’t care who you are, if you are in another teams city you respect that team even if they are playing against yours). Russell Braynan was something else with his two run home run in the 9th to give the Mariners a four run lead (and Ty Van Burkleo wanted to give him the night off!) And so the Mariners true colors are showing once more. Just when you thought all hope was lost that their is no way thy can do it…they pull it off!!! WAY TO GO GUYS!!!

Seattle Love

The Red Socks must looooove Seattle. I have been to one Boston game in Seattle (they are hard to get tickets to) and Boston fans outnumbered Seattle fans. From what I just heard from Safeco Field on FSN as Varitek slammed a two run home-run, it sounds like Boston fans once again outnumber Seattle fans in Safeco filed. Hopefully this game goes as good as that game did on July 23, 2006. It was a stressful game for all fans at the park. The Mariners led than the Red Socks led than the Mariners led than the Red Socks tied it. Allow me to set the scene for you… it was the bottom of the 9th tied 8-8. The first man up to bat was Sexson, a very tall (6’8″), not overly large (240lbs), athletic man with ice blue eyes and a blond/brown goatee. He was facing the Red Socks star closer, former Mariner Mike Timlin, a somewhat tall (6’4″), not overly large (210lbs), athletic man with ice blue eyes and a blond/red goatee.

The stadium was cheering as Sexson walked out, bat in hand, to face Timlin. They stared at each other, as both players tried to unnerve the other. Timlin checked the signs and nodded to Varitek preparing to throw his pitch while Sexson dug is toes in, preparing to receive whatever Timlin had in store for him. Timlin lifted his leg and threw his pitch right at Varitek’s glove but Sexson was ready…SMACK!!!! Myself, my dad, and 38,000+ fans all jumped to their feet as the ball hit by Sexson screamed toward the wall. The stadium was silent except for a whispered chant of drop..drop..drop… by Socks fans and a simultaneous whispered chant of go..go…go… by Mariners fans. The stadium was so quiet that I (sitting in section 126 about 7 rows down) could hear the great Dave Neihous yelling “TO THE WALL…TO THE WARNING TRACK….GOODBYE BASEBALL!!!!!” The stadium erupted in screams of triumph and woe…that’s right ladies and gentlemen, Richie Sexson hit a lead off home run in the bottom of the 9th off of Mike Timlin to win the game. And let me tell you something ladies and gentlemen, if you had visited Seattle that day you would have sworn the Porn Awards were in town because that entire city was chanting “SEXY!”
Hopefully today’s game has the same result for the Mariners…A WIN!

At least it wasn’t a sweep

At least our series with the Twins wasn’t a
sweep under the rug with a 5-3 win for the Mariners yesterday
ending our six game loosing streak. Like a man on a sailing
on the Bering Sea, the Mariners have hit some massive swells
and monstrous waves. Leading the AL west less than two
weeks ago, now they are two games behind Texas (whom we of
course are playing next…no pressure). However, even though
we have lost the last 6 of 7 games don’t sell these guys
short. It is still early in the season and I know based on
what I have already seen this year that those Mariners are
some serious competition. Now is the time they have to step
up their game. I think part of our success in spring training
and at the beginning of the year is the fact that no body
expected a team who lost 101 games last year to actually do
well this year. Even with the addition of Jr., people didn’t
expect the rest of the team to actually be contenders. Well
boys, prep your horses and kiss your ladies farewell…it’s
war time in the AL West.

….OMG, TALK ABOUT STRESS

Lopez did it again. Hitting the single in the 15th inning to win it for the Mariners. After 5 hours and 15 innings of holding my bread, I need to relax. Unfortunately I have to read 90 pages about human reproduction organs for Human Sexuality (interesting class but A LOT of reading).

Lopez, Lopez, LOPEZ!!!!

Bottom of the ninth, 2 outs, tied 7 to 7,
and Lopez has a 2-2 count. It took 14 pitches but he did
it…he brought Chavez home for an 8 to 7 win ^_^. We are now
3 1/2 games ahead of the second place team in the AL West,
Texas.

Reflections

I cannot believe this sprint out of the gate. Ichiro hits a grand slam and hit a home run today to score the only run of the game, Jr. hits his 400 home run as a Mariner (the only man to hit 400 with the same team). Even our bullpen is doing well. As of today, Hernandez has three consecutive wins. We needed this so bad. After last year I was worried that our boys would not be able to pull out a winning year but it looks like I was wrong. Wakamatsu is by far the best thing that has ever happened to this team. Ok…Jr’s back but Wakamatsu has somehow taken a team that was beaten down and made them winners. No body expected the Mariners to be leading the the AL West at any point during the year but look where they are now. Granted it is the beginning of the year but this is where we need to be. The guys are not only proving it to their fans and all the people who doubted them that they are winners, but more importantly they are proving it to themselves.

Although many are surprised at how well the Mariners are doing at the beginning of the (myself included) one can speculate that they were supposed to do well this year. Last year we were the only team in the AL West to win our last game (our 61st win to be exact). I am no omen expert but looking at what we have done this year, maybe that was an omen of better things to come. Even if we don’t win the AL West this year, we should be proud of what we have accomplished in the first couple weeks of the season. Ichiro’s grand slam, Jr’s 400th homer as a Mariner, Hernandez’s arm, and Betancourt, Sweeney, Balentien, Chavez, Ichiro all batting over .300 this season so far. What a year for the 10th anniversary of Safeco Field.
I have said it for years and I will say it for years to come, “YOU GOTTA LOVE THESE GUYS!!!”

GRAD SLAM

Ichiro a man who is a base runner not a home
run hitter hits a grand slam. I am so happy my bio. chem.
test was today (I killed that test ^_^) because tonight is a
night to celebrate!!!!!!!!!!!!!

HOME RUN!!!

Back to back home runs and Griffey with his
400th home run with the Mariners. The first player to get 400
with one team. LETS PARTY LIKE IT’S
1995.

They’re Baaaack!!!!!

The Mariners won a fantastic game last
night…there is nothing like winning a game that goes into
extra innings (WE JUST SCORED 1-0 MARINERS BOTTOM OF THE
4TH!!!). I am so excited to see the Mariners finally winning
again. After last year we need a really good year this year.
We have a fantastic team with some of the greatest players in
baseball and a 5 (and it looks like a possible 6 after
tonight’s game…knock on wood) game winning streak (Johjima
is injured…if you can’t tell by now I am watching the game
while writing this….bless the public school system for
requiring typing…I haven’t looked at the keyboard
yet…innings over). We really need this winning streak to
boost our confidence. Hopefully we don’t loose it in the
second half of the season like we’ve done in years past
(fingers crossed).
